Ms. Yujia Shen – Founder & Educator

Ms. Yujia Shen is a distinguished pianist, dedicated music educator, and founder of Yujia Shen Piano Studio in Livingston, New Jersey. She holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, where she studied with internationally respected pianist Dr. Walter Ponce and Professor Danwen Wei, Chairman of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and a notable protégé of the legendary Vladimir Horowitz.

A Steinway Educational Partner and active member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Ms. Shen plays an important role in New Jersey’s music education community through her work with the New Jersey Music Teachers Association (NJMTA) Spring Recital Auditions. In both 2025 and 2026, she chaired the NJMTA Spring Recital Auditions and directed ten Piano Winners’ Recitals across North Jersey, reflecting her respected leadership within the state’s music education community.

Throughout her career, Ms. Shen has received numerous honors and awards for her musical achievements and educational contributions. She has also served as an adjudicator for prestigious international events, including the Ninth Hong Kong International Piano Invitation Competition and the Seventh International Liszt Ferenc Competition in Budapest, Hungary.

Ms. Shen has received multiple international honors recognizing her excellence in teaching and student achievement, including:

  • Steinway Top Teacher Award and Crescendo International Competition Top Teacher Award (2024)

  • Extraordinary Educator Award — WPTA Spain IPC 5th Edition (2025)

  • Outstanding Teacher Award — Chicago International Music Competition and Festival (2025)

  • Charleston International Piano Competition Teacher Award (2026)

  • Outstanding Commitment to Music Education Teacher Award — Chopin Avenue International Competition (2026)

  • Outstanding Commitment to Music Education and Student Achievement Award — 5th Trinity International Music Competition (2026)

  • Certificate of Outstanding Education and Contribution Award — 7th Apex International Music Competition (2026)

Under Ms. Shen’s guidance, students of Yujia Shen’s Piano Studio have achieved remarkable success in both state and international competitions. Her students have earned First Prize awards at the Chopin Avenue International Competition, Chicago International Music Competition, Trinity International Music Competition, and Charleston International Piano Competition. Between 2023 and 2026, many students also received Grand Prize, First Prize, and other top honors in major international piano competitions. In addition, her students won First Prize and Third Prize at the NJMTA Young Musicians Competition in both 2024 and 2025, one of New Jersey’s most competitive state-level music events.

 

Students from the studio have been invited to perform at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and several were invited to travel to Poland to participate in the Chopin Avenue Winners’ Concerts. Her students also consistently excel in ABRSM and RCM examinations, frequently earning Merit and Distinction honors. In the NJMTA Spring Recital Auditions, 10 students received High Honor awards and 12 students earned Honor distinctions.

 

With over six years of teaching experience, Ms. Shen works with students of all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced pianists and adult learners. Her teaching combines strong technical training with musical artistry, creativity, discipline, and confidence-building. Through individualized mentorship and a supportive yet highly professional learning environment, Yujia Shen’s Piano Studio inspires students to achieve artistic excellence while developing a lifelong passion for music.
